Sarah Legow – The Man Cave, 2025, film, 2’05 (PT)
En un souvenir d’enfance reconstitué à partir d’un assemblage de photos provenant de sources publiques, de scènes inventées et d’animation image par image, The Man Cave entraîne en un voyage bref et déroutant dans la vision commune de deux jeunes filles sur la masculinité. C’est un regard irrévérencieux d’enfant sur la sexualité masculine, à travers un prisme proto-féministe. L’espace masculin « sûr » de la « caverne des hommes » envahie par des filles, aboutit à un fantasme absurde et exubérant mais s’y glissent des éléments autobiographiques.
S’y emprunte une reprise de «You’ve Got Something There» de la comédie musicale «Varsity Show» des années 1930, avec l’accord de Warner Chappell.

A childhood memory re-enacted through a mixture of publicly sourced photos, staged scenes, and stop motion animation, “The Man Cave” is brief, bewildering journey inside two young girls’ shared vision of manhood. It’s an irreverent child’s eye view of male sexuality, seen through a proto-feminist lens: the male “safe space” of the “man cave” invaded by girls, culminating in absurd, exuberant fantasy. Autobiographical in origin, it is a work of experimental non-fiction.
The music in the film, a cover of “You’ve Got Something There” from the 1930s musical “Varsity Show,” is used with the permission of Warner Chappell.
