Marek Koutesh – Underpass
Underpass, 2024, Film, 5 min 56 (CZ) : Underpass is located at the intersection of material deformations and the genre tropes of horror and thrillers. The defining event of the second half of the 20th century, centered on the medialized image of the broken human body, is in the film combined with the creative decomposition of grainy 8mm film. The dread of the initial shock is conveyed by non-figurative cracks and omnipresent eye-like perforations. The internal rhythm was set to recording from a police dictabelt, which captured the global encounter with the real in a similarly unstable vein.
Underpassse situe à l’intersection des déformations matérielles et des tropes de genre de l’horreur et du thriller. L’événement déterminant de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle, centré sur l’image médiatisée du corps humain brisé, est combiné dans le film à la décomposition créative d’une pellicule granuleuse en 8 mm. La terreur du choc initial est transmise par des fissures non figuratives et des perforations omniprésentes semblables à des yeux. Le rythme interne a été réglé sur l’enregistrement d’un dictaphone de police, qui a capturé la rencontre globale avec le réel d’une manière tout aussi instable.
